2015 Corsair Rendezvous & Nationals

We will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of the very first Corsair Nationals which was held in Pensacola in 1994, setting the precedent for several great events to follow. Our goal is to make this an event that caters equally to both racers and recreational sailors by upping the fun factor and adding educational/informational sessions, while still providing a rigorous racing schedule for hardcore racers!

The relatively central and easily accessible location of Pensacola, our user friendly protected sandy beaches with a lack of hazardous conditions (like rocks or strong currents), and our stunningly beautiful waters make this an ideal location for an event of this type. We are aiming for attendance of at least 35 boats, hopefully more (in the past we have seen up to 65 Corsairs for a Nationals in our area). The official Notice of Race is now available. Not all of this event agenda is cast in stone, and we are open to suggestions. Your comments and suggestions will be invaluable to us, just comment to this post if you wish to offer suggestions and voice support.

The following URL is a link to an interactive map with clickable place markers illustrating the location of the points of interest and facilities mentioned, so that you can put it all in perspective. (What you can't see on the map is the sheer beauty of the area, the emerald waters, white sand beaches!)

2015 Corsair Rendezvous & Nationals

Location: Pensacola, Florida

Dates: April 28-May 3

Racing Registration: April 30th
Racing Regatta: May 1st - 3rd

Rendezvous Registration: April 28th
“Fun Fleet” Regatta: April 29th - May 3rd

At this time weather will be warm but not too hot; winds should be good (typically 10-15 knots); beaches and restaurants not yet crowded; hotel rates still reasonable)!

Local organizing committee: Don Wigston, Bert Rice, Randy Smyth, Linda Wright, Karlene Gentile

Scheduled Activities:

An overnight cruise to Pirates Cove, Alabama and Fort McRee

Pirates Cove is a historically fun Beach Bar Restaurant, Marina and general hang out. Fort McRee offers more secluded anchoring with the ability to have a bonfire etc. on the beach

Sail demos aboard various current model Corsair Trimarans for all sailors—Dash 750, Sprint 750 and hopefully a Cruze 970 and other models soon to be announced. An afternoon will be set aside for good demos!

Educational seminars and discussions will include sessions such as:

Those dedicated to Ropes and Rigging, Splicing, Navigation, Sail Trim and Handling for best Performance, Reefing techniques and Anchoring skills.

We will arrange group docking/anchoring. Our goal is to try to keep everyone together as much as possible! throughout the event.

Racing and Recreation Sailors

Corsair sailors will enjoy 3 days of racing including up to 7 buoy races and two distance races (to Juana's Pagoda and back). In addition to individual class awards, racers will compete for the 2015 Overall Corsair National Champion Award based on the lowest cumulative corrected time.

There will be separate classes for non-Corsair designs.

Good opportunities to make comparisons and study details in person.

Recreational Trimaran Sailors will have up to 6 days to enjoy the! beautiful cruising grounds in the Pensacola area under the guidance! of local Corsair sailor Linda Wright, and will sail to and explore at least four separate destinations: West to Pirates Cove and Fort McRee, and east to Juana’s Pagoda at Navarre, and the Gulf Islands National Seashore.

The event will last 6 days overall, with everyone encouraged to! participate in the overnight cruise to Pirates Cove and get-together party. For teams that are short of time, racing will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Cruising activities will continue during those days for non-racers.

Would it be possible to watch the events from shore, get a demo ride, and or participate as a crew.

We will be setting up a crew placement site shortly. Crew who need skippers and skippers who need crew.
We will try to line up boats for charter but in all honesty that's a tough thing to do so don't count on it.

Looking for crew position for the regatta. Is there a crew list?

I am keeping a crew list. Kelly you are already on it. But there have not been many skippers asking for crew so far. I'll try to place as many people as I can, but there's no guarantee everyone can be matched to a boat.
