Taking Delivery of a New Corsair 760 Sport - Part 2

Launching and Sailing the Corsair 760 Sport After a break for the Miami Boat Show, it was time for the fun part: launching and sailing. Unwrapping all the parts took a while, but the upside is there was not a scratch on anything including the gorgeous carbon fiber bowsprit, boom and rudder. As we are used to, mast raising went without a hitch and within just over an hour we were taking our first sail, allowing the synthetic shrouds to stretch in. The 760 Sport comes standard with synthetic side... Read More »

Taking delivery of a new Corsair 760 Sport - Part 1

Delivery and Assembly of the Corsair 760 Sport We recently took delivery of two new Corsair 760s, including our own Corsair 760 Sport to be used as a demo boat for Windcraft Multihulls windcraftmultihulls.com and a customer boat for 180marine.com that will be used in our May Trimaran Speed Clinic. Two 760s fit easily in one container, with one angled up slightly on its shipping cradle to clear the cockpit of the other. It’s about a 40 day wait from the factory to our yard, so anticipation was... Read More »

A circumnavigation of Santa Rosa Island in the Florida Panhandle

Day One had us all starting at the Fort Walton Yacht Club in Chocktawhatchee Bay, sailing in rain out the Destin Pass into the Gulf of Mexico and then west in the emerald waters of the Gulf in a building breeze to the Pensacola Pass. Once through the Pass and across the finish line we were treated to a catered barbecue dinner and music. Most sailors spent the night at the camp ground at Fort Pickens (the infamous site of Geronomo’s imprisonment) with the luxury of having everybody’s camping... Read More »

Are you too old to sail?

Of course not! Occasionally we are told by potential customers that they think they are too old to buy a Corsair trimaran. My somewhat trite, tongue in cheek answer is “You are only as old as you think you are”. By this I mean feeling old is more a state of mind than a physical condition. We have sold boats to several people well into their 80s, many of whom are still sailing actively. Take Andy Green for example. Andy and his wife Joyce are an adventurous couple who have sailed extensively... Read More »

50/50 Round the Island Race

Here comes Randy Smyth, first to finish the 50/50 Round the Island Race Sunday, September 17th, on his custom-built Scissor boat which he is steering with his toes. Due to the preceding hurricane disasters, we did not have as large a turnout of Corsairs as last year, but the two Corsair F-31's that participated skippered by Brian Golumbeck and Mike Patterson respectively had fun.  A little background on this race. It starts at the Fort Walton Yacht Club in Fort Walton Beach, heads across... Read More »

Another Successful Trimaran Sailing Clinic

Windcraft Multihulls hosted another successful Trimaran Sailing Instruction Clinic the weekend of May 6-7. Fifteen students from all over the country, one even from the Virgin Islands, converged on the Fort Walton Yacht Club in the Florida Panhandle to learn from Olympic sailing coach and sailing movie “stuntman” Randy Smyth. The focus of the clinic is to help current Corsair owners learn to sail their own boats more efficiently, and for newcomers to sample the joys and thrills of sailing on... Read More »

50/50 Round the Island Race

Mark your calendar for September 16 – 18, 2016 Announcement from Race Organizer, Randy Smyth Yes, this race was ready for a total ‘face lift’. Sailors got tired of racing 100 miles and straggling home at 2 am or later, often missing the finish party. So, to cater to popular demand we have made the following changes: • Hobie 16’s, WETA’s and other modest speed multihulls will start at Sunrise off the Fort Walton Yacht Club’s gazebo. • Corsairs and other larger Multihulls will start somewhat... Trimaran Performance Sailing Clinic

We just wrapped up another Trimaran Performance Sailing Clinic with instructor extraordinaire Randy Smyth and two of our devoted assistant coaches Linda Wright and Bruce Kuerten. Seventeen students listened to Randy's simple but unique approach to extracting the most performance from a multihull and put the theory into practice on the water on four different Corsairs: a Pulse 600, a Dash 750, a 28 center cockpit and a 31R. Here is what one participant had to say: "I thoroughly enjoyed... Read More »

The Pulse 600 continues to impress me!

The Pulse 600 continues to impress me. I had it out this weekend on Chocktawhatchee Bay Florida in "fairly sporty" conditions--first by myself in perhaps 12-20 knots. Then later in the afternoon with my friend Bob Hodges who joined me for a blast around the bay in winds gusting into the mid to high 20s. Bob is a highly experienced sailor, and has competitively raced boats including Lasers, a Corsair Sprint, a foiling A Class catamaran and a Weta. Let's just say Bob is fairly critical of any... The Corsair Pulse 600 – A Bright Star at the Atlanta Boat Show!

The Pulse 600 and Don were featured on "Good Day Atlanta," Chanel 5's Morning News Program. This was a great way to start the show on Thursday morning. Paul Millikin, host of Good Day Atlanta, put Don at ease with his very personable approach to interviewing. He loved The Pulse and of course he wanted one!   The Pulse received a very enthusiastic reception at the show. And it looked so good. We were delighted to meet so many sailors who live and work in and around Atlanta. Many people told us... Read More »

Corsair Fleet at Fort McRee Beach BBQ

Something like 26 boats out of 35 or so assembled this afternoon on the beach at Fort McRee. I had forgotten what a pretty place it is. The weather is now perfect, warm but not too hot during the day. The boats sailing to Fort McRee from the Pensacola Yacht Club had a nice spinnaker run and screacher reach to the vicinity of Fort McRee before sailing upwind the last mile in gustier conditions with main and jib. Here are two shots of the fleet anchored, just before the gourmet barbeque was... Read More »

Cruising Report from 2015 Corsair Nationals

Yesterday the Fun Fleet headed west on their interstate cruise from Florida to Alabama to experience the unique ambience at Pirates Cove. The sun even tried to peek out from behind the clouds a few times. But the rain is long gone. They were treated to an aerobatic display from the Blue Angels who are based here at the Naval Airstation and were in the air over Pensacola Bay practicing.   Today after a late breakfast the fleet will make their way east again to Fort McCree at the mouth of the...
