April 18-22, 2018 — Don Wigston/Windcraft Multihulls, traveled to the south of France to attend this one-of-a-kind boat show and to help with the Seawind 1600 display. The diversity of the exhibited multihulls makes this a world event: a major event of the nautical calendar!
The weather was perfect, warm days and cool nights. This beautiful location, La Grande Motte is a large marina crammed full of boats--mostly multihulls!
This boat show is much more user friendly than say, the Miami International Boat Show. Smaller crowds, fewer boats, but all the best cruising multihulls are here. La Grande Motte is the home of two well known catamaran brands: Outremer and Gunboat.
The French magazine Multihulls World announced the winners of their Multihull of the Year Award in various categories. The Corsair 760 won Multihull of the Year for the under 40 ft category. And our Seawind 1600 was a close runner up in the over 50 ft category, narrowly edged out by the Neel 51.
In the category of 50 feet and over these were the winners.
1 - Neel 51
2 - Seawind 1600
3 - Rapido 60
See below for some photographs of the Seawind 1600, a true performance cruiser with twin dagger boards and dagger rudders.
The details on the Seawind 1600 are impressive!
Daggerboard is totally hidden but still accessible.
