Plans are shaping up for a 2-4 day spring cruise for Corsair trimarans and other multihulls the first weekend in May on the emerald green waters of Florida's Panhandle Gulf Coast. Here's a rough plan, to be fine tuned as the group wishes.
Thursday morning, May 3rd
Boats East of the Navarre Bridge, coming from Destin, Fort Walton Beach, Mary Esther and those arriving from out of town (East Side Gang) can put in at the Fort Walton Yacht Club or on the Santa Rosa Sound at Liza Jackson Park. Trailers can be stored at the Fort Walton Yacht Club or a couple at Windcraft's headquarters. Which will involve some shuttling if you put in at Liza Jackson. Before departing the East Side Gang will gather at Liza Jackson Park or the Fort Walton Yacht Club for a planning session, coffee and bagels. Most likely the IHOP next to Liza Jackson park/launch ramp.
On Thursday we'll sail to Juanas Pagodas at the Navarre Bridge causeway and anchor there for Thursday night where we can enjoy the beach, play volley ball, walk out on the Navarre Pier--the longest Pier on the Gulf Coast-- where we might be lucky and see some pretty big turtles and lots of fish, maybe even a shark or two. The fishermen among in the group can try their hand at casting from the pier. We will have a cook-out at one of the covered beach pavilions, or dine at Juana's.
Boaters coming from West of the Navarre Bridge (the West Side Gang)--from Alabama, Pensacola, Gulf Breeze can sail to the Navarre Bridge on Thursday where to join forces with the East Side Gang. The West Side Gang will backtrack early in the trip; the East Side Gang will backtrack at the end of the trip.
Friday morning, May 4th
Sail to Fort McCree on Friday, anchor at this spectacular spot, eat, drink and be merry. Good anchoring needed at this spot as the current can get reasonably strong through the cut.
Saturday morning, May 5th
Get an early start for Pensacola where we can tie up at Palafox Pier in downtown Pensacola and enjoy the interesting Palafox Market Place featuring all local products, open from 8 am to 2 pm; then lunch at the Airstream Trailer Court or at the Bodacious Olive, both at Main and Palafox. Then head back to the boats to set sail for Pirates Cove where we can anchor, enjoy what the bar and restaurant have to offer and hopefully someone among us will bring their guitar or other instruments to entertain us all.
Sunday morning, May 6th
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at Pirates Cove and then the East Side Gang can head east and the West side gang can head home or continue cruising--whatever your whim.
Let Karlene or Don know if you are interested in participating.
