2018 Summer Splash to Catalina Island is On!

August 2, 2018 Mike Leneman

All multihulls welcome! This multihull offshore event has become the largest and most fun event in the country. It's a casual race from Marina del Rey to Cat Harbor on Friday, September 21. Saturday, enjoy a day of socializing, hiking, swimming, and games. You can start from your own port if you wish. Sunday, a casual race back to Marina del Rey. Many boats do leave from other ports and either have their own race or just don't race.

Catalina Harbor is one of the “Two Harbors” on Catalina Island. The other harbor is Isthmus Cove where the Catalina Express ferry docks in the small town of Two Harbors. These two coves are back to back with a half-mile wide isthmus between them. Catalina Harbor a.k.a. “Cat Harbor” is the deepest cove on the island and provides excellent protection for boats anchored or moored here. Ballast Point is a sand spit that sticks out into the harbor  Cat Harbor doesn’t have a sandy beach per se but there are many great places to walk, take pictures, and rest along the shore. It’s worth the short walk from Two Harbors to get here. On summer weekends a shuttle operates between the town and the main dock on Catalina Harbor. You might see buffalo (American Bison) roaming in the fields near the cove. Fourteen buffalo
were left on the island after being used in a movie that was shot here in 1924.

A lot of Corsair boats come...from 24's to 31's as well as bigger, fast multihulls.....like Minette (40 ft. racing cat) which acts as race committee.
